The School of Humanities is a research-productive School with 50 staff, three undergraduate programs (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Communication, Bachelor of Journalism), three coursework Masters programs, and an active RHD culture. It is currently undergoing an exciting period of revitalisation and expansion. Strong growth in student numbers together with generational change in the staff profile have created a position in cultural sociology, to be based at the Gold Coast campus.
The School of Humanities is one of the leading Schools in Australia committed to high level research and teaching in the rapidly expanding sub-discipline of cultural sociology. The Schools cultural sociologists have international research strengths in cultural consumption, popular music and youth culture, together with high profile research in death and remembering, cosmopolitanism and social networks. There is a growing RHD culture in the field and the suite of undergraduate courses is experiencing marked growth in numbers.
The School has close links with the Griffith Centre for Cultural Research (GCCR), directed by Professor Andy Bennett. The GCCR provides funding and and other support for members researching in the broad fields of historical and contemporary culture. Membership is contingent upon research productivity.
This is a Continuing, Full time position based at the Gold Coast campus.
The role: The School wishes to appoint a Lecturer, Level B in cultural sociology based at the Gold Coast Campus, with research expertise in fields related to the research strengths of the Schools cultural sociology group.
The person: The School is seeking an innovative and energetic colleague who wants to contribute to and grow in this high-performing research and teaching environment. The successful applicant will be expected to have a doctoral degree in the relevant discipline as well as teaching experience, research capacity and professional expertise in the area. Expertise in youth culture, new media or the sociology of media would be particularly attractive
Salary range: Lecturer level B: $73,388 to $87,151 per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $85,865 to $101,967 per annum.
