The Program in American Culture Studies at Washington University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Family and Intimate Relations. They are particularly interested in Fellows whose research and teaching focus on the study of relations of production, reproduction and/or regulation, pertaining to the history and theory of family and intimate relations; sexuality; and/or the body. American Culture Studies is a robust endowed program that fosters cross-disciplinary intellectual community and transformative scholarship at the intersections of the humanities and social sciences; it serves as home to an undergraduate major, a graduate certificate program, and collaborative research and teaching activities. The AMCS Postdoctoral Fellow will teach two undergraduate courses per year, work with undergraduate advisees, and actively participate in and contribute to the intellectual life of American Culture Studies (which includes the Americanist Dinner Forum, a monthly cross-disciplinary exchange among faculty and graduate students on shared research problematics; AMCS Workshops; and AMCS Faculty Program Initiatives in Modern Segregation, Performance and Popular Culture, and American Intimacies). Fellows are expected to be in residence during the fellowship period, apart from research-related travel. The main goal in this postdoctoral program is the intellectual development of the Fellows and ourselves through productive academic interaction. They are particularly interested in Fellows whose research and teaching (1) have a strong theoretical emphasis, at the same time as they are deeply engaged with ethnographic and/or historical particulars; and (2) center on the study of relations of production, reproduction and/or regulation, particularly as they center on the history and theory of the family and intimate relations; sexuality; and/or the body. To be considered, candidates must have received the Ph.D. since July 1, 2010, or be scheduled to defend the dissertation before July 1, 2014. The Fellow will receive a salary of approximately $43,000 per year, plus benefits; and a $3,000 annual research/travel stipend, which may be supplemented in cases of demonstrated need.
