THE ART HISTORY GRADUATE STUDENT
COMMITTEE FOR VISITING SCHOLARS is hosting Annika Johnson for her talk “Pipestone
at the Confluence of Cultures in the Nineteenth Century” on Thursday, April 12
from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM in Heller Hall Room 445. This talk will explore how
Native carvers and Euro-American ethnographers configured knowledge about the materiality
and aesthetics of pipestone during the turbulent settlement of Dakota homelands.
