Fulbright Information Sessions

The Graduate School Fellowship Office is pleased to announce three Fulbright Information Sessions for students who are interested in conducting research abroad during the 2018-19 academic year.  Excellent opportunities are available to over 140 countries.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens.  The UM campus application deadline is Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

KONG PHA, PhD candidate, has accepted a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Critical Hmong Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire starting fall of 2017.

Christine Bachman-Sanders, PhD candidate, will be giving a talk titled "The Cyclist's Mobility: Lady Cyclists, Wheelmen of Color, and the Bicycle Boom of the 1890s" for the Cycling Museum of Minnesota. The talk will take place on Sunday, April 30, 1:00PM – 2:00PM at The Vault, Saint Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, 519 Oak Grove St., Minneapolis. The event is free and open to the public. AMST 4962W: Senior Seminar is pleased to announce their Senior Symposium on Friday, May 5th from 11:45am - 2:00pm in the Commons (Scott 105). The senior American Studies majors will be presenting their senior theses beginning at noon. Lunch will be served at 11:45 and there will be cake after the presentations are done. 23rd annual David Noble Lecture featuring Roderick A. Ferguson

AMERICAN STUDIES is excited to host the 23rd annual David Noble Lecture featuring Roderick A. Ferguson on Tuesday, May 2 at 7:00pm in Cowles Auditorium in the Humphrey School. Rod's talk is titled "The Bookshop of the Black Queer Diaspora" and will tell the stories of how black queer diasporic activists and artists challenged neoliberalism in the 1970s and 80s in North America and the U.K. Click here for more information. 

Utopian World-Making: Art Social Justice, & Communities of Color Symposium

CHICANO & LATINO STUDIES invite you to their event Utopian World-Making: Art Social Justice, & Communities of Color Symposium. The symposium will coincide with the opening of the exhibit Remembrance: Gay Chicano Art and feature many of the artists from the exhibit. The symposium will take place on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 and the exhibit will run from Tuesday, April 25 through Saturday, May 13.
