2011 International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) application deadline: November 3, 2010

The Social Science Research Council is accepting applications for the 2011 International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF). Seventy-five fellowships are awarded annually, with a per-fellowship average of $18,750. Open to grad students conducting dissertation research outside of the United States. Applicants must complete all Ph.D. requirements except on-site research by the time the fellowship begins or by December 2011, whichever comes first. Application deadline: November 3, 2010.

Assistant Professor, Tenure Track: Public History, UNC-Greensboro

The History Department of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in August 2011. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Education International and Foreign Language Education Service will present on U.S. priorities and initiatives in international education and the national needs for expertise in foreign language and international studies. The speakers will highlight funding and resource opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students and faculty with a specific focus on the Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowship program and the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad and Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship Programs. Open discussion of national priorities and funding opportunities will follow.

Presenters: Sam Eisen (Branch Chief), Peter Baker (Program Officer) and Cynthia Dudzinski (Program Officer) are members of the Advanced Training and Research Team from the U.S. Department of Education International and Foreign Language Education Service.

The College of Arts and Sciences and the Africana Studies Program at Lehigh University invite Ph.D. candidates specializing in African diaspora studies to apply for a two-year predoctoral / postdoctoral fellowship, beginning August 15, 2011.
Applications are welcome from candidates whose research concentrates in any area of the African diaspora and any of the following fields of African Diaspora Studies: history, religion, gender, sexuality, culture, identity formation and political life. Successful candidates will also demonstrate the ability to design and offer undergraduate courses in their field of specialization.
TERMS
The two-year award carries a stipend of $25,000 in the first year. It is renewable for the second year, with a $40,000 salary, provided the fellow completes his/her Ph.D. in time to meet all requirements for the home institution's spring graduation. The fellowship also carries up to $1500 in moving expenses and $1500 in research/travel support in the first year and $3000 in the second year.

Residence and Employment
The fellow must be in residence at the University for the duration of the award period. He/she may accept no employment, fellowships, or consulting obligations during the term of the fellowship.
Teaching load
One course during the first year as a doctoral candidate and 2 courses during the second year as a postdoctoral fellow.
Other expectations
Contribution to programming of Africana Studies events and lectures. Active presence on campus and establishment of links with faculty and students. Periodic presentations of the fellow's research to the larger Lehigh academic community.

The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) is now accepting applications for the 2011 Mellon Fellowships for Dissertation Research in Original Sources. About 15 fellowships of a maximum of $25,000 will be awarded. Applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral program in the U.S. but do not have to be U.S. citizens. The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) is now
accepting applications for the 2011 Mellon Fellowships for
Dissertation Research in Original Sources.
The purposes of this fellowship program are to:
* help junior scholars in the humanities and related
social-science fields gain skill and creativity in developing
knowledge from original sources;
* enable dissertation writers to do research wherever relevant
sources may be, rather than just where financial support is available;
* encourage more extensive and innovative uses of original sources
in libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, and related
repositories in the U.S. and abroad; and
* provide insight from the viewpoint of doctoral candidates into
how scholarly resources can be developed for access most helpfully in
the future.
The program will be offering about fifteen competitively awarded
fellowships for 2011. Each provides a stipend of $2,000 per month for
9-12 months. Each fellow will receive an additional $1,000 upon
participating in a symposium on research in original sources and
submitting an acceptable report to CLIR on the research experience.
Thus the maximum award will be $25,000.
Fellowship stipends will support research beginning between June 1 and
September 1, 2011, and ending within 12 months of commencing.
Fellowships will not be renewed or extended. Fellows are expected to
devote full time to their dissertation research without holding
teaching or research assistantships or undertaking other paid work.
Applicants may apply simultaneously for other fellowships, including
Mellon awards, but fellows may not hold other fellowships
simultaneously with CLIR's. Fellows may use stipends to meet living
expenses, travel costs, and other expenses that enable dissertation
research to be carried out, but not to defray tuition.
Applicants do not have to be U.S. citizens, but must be enrolled in a
doctoral program in a graduate school in the United States.

Continuously Rich: Black Women in Cultural Production Symposium @ U of MN Dance

Continuously Rich: Black Women in Cultural Production is a symposium that features the work of black women choreographers working from different contexts, aesthetics, and thematic foci, and whose work comments back on any stereotypical notions of what "black dance" might be. The symposium will be held from Oct. 21 to Oct. 23, 2010 at the University of Minnesota. This event is free and open to the public.

A Note on Printing

A note on printing: The least expensive way to print is by using the department copier. To have your teaching materials printed for you, please send an attachment to amstdy@umn.edu Please specify how many copies you need. All copies will be double-sided and stapled unless you make a special request. We ask for two hours for preparation and we will email you when your print job is done. Notes from Laura:
-Please complete one form for each course, and email your order as an attachment to me at Domin047@umn.edu by Wednesday, October 27, 2010.
-Let me know whether or not you need a personal desk copy. I will be requesting copies for your TAs.
- I submit a request to the publisher for desk copies after I receive your completed order form. It can take weeks to obtain desk copies, so the earlier I get the order, the earlier you and your TAs will have copies of the books. Desk copies cannot be guaranteed for faculty and instructors if the deadline for book orders is not met.
-If your course is cross-listed, include all department names on your order form so that all sections of the course will have books ordered.
- Include the ISBN of the edition you want . If the ISBN is incorrect, you may end up with a different edition of the book.
-If you are NOT ordering books or ordering a packet instead, be sure to let me know.

Bookstore guidelines:

-Submitting book orders before Fall 2010 Finals Week gives the bookstore the opportunity to pay students the best price for their books during buyback.
- If you delete or change books for your course after they have shipped from the publisher, your research account will be charged for return fees.
-If know you will be using a book in the future, please indicate when that is. This allows the bookstore to plan to purchase used copies, saving students money.
- Be sure to specify whether the book is Required (R) or Optional (O).

Moreau Academic Diversity Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The University of Notre Dame is now accepting applications for the Moreau Academic Diversity Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. These two-year postdoctoral appointments will carry a starting annual salary of $50,000. Health insurance and $5,000 for relocation/research expenses will also be part of the fellowship package. Applicants must have completed all requirements for the doctoral degree by June 30, 2011 or have received the terminal degree in their discipline within the past five years. Application deadline: November 1, 2010.

Moreau Academic Diversity Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The Moreau Academic Diversity Postdoctoral Program seeks to increase the number of scholars who will contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and research excellence of The University of Notre Dame by providing a two-year research, teaching, and mentoring experience. Promising candidates in any discipline who meet one or more of the following criteria are eligible to apply:
1. Scholars in any discipline from one of the populations underrepresented historically in American higher education (e.g., Women, Native American, African American, Asian American, or Latino/a)
2. Scholars whose research focuses on Gender, First Nations/Native American, Africa/Africana, Asian/Asian American, Ethnic, Latino/a, or Latin American Studies
3. Scholars with interdisciplinary research projects that promise to enhance cultural competency and diversity within the American educational landscape and who are interested in exploring the
implications of such work for liberal education in the Catholic tradition
4. Scholars with a track record of involvement in initiatives aimed at promoting diversity in higher education through teaching
Fellows will devote their time to research and will teach two courses each year during their tenure. The first will be in the area of their specialization. The second will be a core undergraduate offering for the department serving as their home. Fellows will also be part of mentoring initiatives sponsored by their host department and the Office of the Provost. These will be geared toward long-term professional development and the evaluation of each fellow for possible appointment to a teaching-and-research
position at the University.
These two-year postdoctoral appointments will carry a starting annual salary of $50,000. Health insurance and $5,000 for relocation/research expenses will also be part of the fellowship package. Applicants must have completed all requirements for the doctoral degree by June 30, 2011 or have received the terminal degree in their discipline within the past five years. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
Applications should email the following materials in one PDF file: [1] a cover letter detailing the applicant's specific qualifications for the fellowship; the primary field of expertise; a description of how
she/he will contribute to the perspective and intellectual diversity of the university; a list of up to two departments at Notre Dame to which the application should be forwarded for consideration; [2] a
proposed plan for research to be undertaken during the tenure of the fellowship, not to exceed five pages; and [3] a curriculum vitae. The candidate should also arrange for three letters of
recommendation to be emailed to the address below under separate cover. For those having received their terminal degree within the last year, one reference letter must be from the dissertation advisor.

The National Archives announces a new 2011 Regional Residency Fellowship

The National Archives announces a new 2011 Regional Residency Fellowship to give researchers the opportunity to conduct original research at National Archives locations. A $3000 stipend will be awarded for a total of 5 fellowships. Academic historians are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is November 15, 2010.

The National Archives announces a new 2011 Regional Residency Fellowship
The National Archives, with the generous support of the National Archives Foundation, announces a new program designed to give researchers the opportunity to conduct original research using records held at National Archives locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Kansas City, Philadelphia and Seattle. This is an opportunity for researchers to explore often overlooked records held by the National Archives and to experience what many researchers have discovered - that you do not have to go to Washington, D.C. to do research at the National Archives.
For 2011, one fellow will be assigned to each of the participating National Archives locations, for a total of five fellowships. Each fellow will receive a $3,000.00 stipend to assist with travel and research expenses.
Stipend recipients will be expected to complete a research project that results in a publishable work product. In addition, within one year of receiving the fellowship, recipients will be asked to prepare a short report for publication by the National Archives that describes the research experience - the discovery, method, and use of the records at whatever location the fellow is working at.
The use of social media tools to spread information about the experience is encouraged. Fellows will also be asked to conduct a staff briefing at the end of their research visit to share information regarding what was found during the research process.
Academic and independent historians, public and local historians, and writers are encouraged to apply. Current National Archives employees, contractors, paid interns, or their immediate family members are not eligible.
APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY EMAIL OR POSTMARKED BY NOVEMBER 15, 2010.
Applications should include:
* A description and justification for the project, not to exceed six pages. This proposal should include:
o a description of consultation with a regional archivist regarding the records to be used for research (there should be enough records to warrant a research visit of at least one week);
o a listing of the records that will be used at the region;
o the proposed final product; and
o the significance of the project to historical scholarship.
* In addition to the proposal, the application should also include:
o Copy of Vita (no more than three pages) including current contact information; and
o Two letters of recommendation
Applications should be sent by mail or electronic mail directly to the NARA facility the researcher intends to use for the fellowship:
