STILL ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE FILM SCREENING

THE DEPARTMENT of GENDER WOMEN AND SEXUALITY STUDIES and THE CENTER for BIOETHICS is pleased to announce their event titled “Still Absolutely Positive: A Screening of Absolutely Positive.” The documentary “Absolutely Positive” sits down with11 HIV+ individuals, gay and straight, men and women at the intersections of difference, to discuss how their diagnosis has changed their lives. Brendan McHugh (PhD Candidate) will be facilitating the event. This event will take place on December 2^nd, 2016 in Folwell 108 from 1:30PM- 3:30PM.

CHIC 5920 COURSE SPRING 2-17

CHIC 5920 Seminar in Comparative Ethic Studies: Power, Subjectivity, Resistance will be offered for the Spring 2017 semester. The course asks a simple question: What creates and what impedes solidarity among struggles for justice among differently racialized communities? To answer the question, the course will convene to critically evaluate the ways Ethnic Studies scholarship has analyzed white supremacy by examining a multiplicity of racialized communities in relationship to one another. Professor Jimmy Patiño will teach this course, it will be held on Tuesdays 4:00PM- 6:30PM in Nicholson Hall 335.

Spring 2017 | AMST 8231 Section 001: Cultural Fallout: The Cold War and Its Legacy

AMST 8231/ HIST 5831 Cultural Fallout: The Cold War and its Legacy will be offered for the Spring 2017 semester. This course will examine the culture of the Cold War as it developed in the years after World War II, how it affected and reflected the domestic politics, public policies, and civic life in the postwar era, the impact of domestic anti-communism, and the influence of American cultural politics abroad.  We will examine how the Cold War shaped gender expectations, sexuality, class relations, citizenship, racial justice and civil rights, and how its legacy has affected American politics, culture, and social life in the years since. Professor Elaine May Tyler will teach this course, it will be held on Tuesday from 3:35PM- 5:30PM in Folwell Hall 116.
