University of Lausanne, Switzerland - Post-doctoral position: The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lausanne invites applications for a Post-doctoral position at the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Life Course Studies. The candidate must integrate an interdisciplinary (social psychology, sociology, demography and social history) research network and program TRACES. (Transition to adulthood and collective experiences study : www.unil.ch/TRACES. This study investigates how collectives experiences (like war traumas and economic deprivations) influence different types of attitudes (toward human right violations, ethnic and national identification, intergroup relationships, etc.) in the aftermath of the armed conflict in ex-Yugoslavia. The candidate will collaborate with Prof. D. Spini (principal investigator) and coordinate some activities of the network (data sharing, web platform, and valorisation of research) and take an active part in the data analyses and research team exchanges. These tasks should result in about the half of the activities. On the remaining time, the candidate is expected to develop his or her own line of research. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to take advantage of this position to develop research questions and data analyses of international data bases, notably those available from the Swiss Foundation for Social Sciences (http://www.unil.ch/fors). This position is located at the newly created PaVie Research laboratory at the University of Lausanne (see www.unil.ch/itb), an interdisciplinary research centre devoted to life course research. This centre is specialized in longitudinal data analyses and in interdisciplinary research programs implying notably researchers from the social sciences. In addition to research tasks, this position may imply some small percentage of teaching, for example in participating to a workshop of the doctoral schools. Profile - PhD in social psychology or empirical sociology, other similar profiles can be taken into account - Publications in international scientific journals - Strong skills in data-analysis. Experience in multilevel analysis will be appreciated. - Excellent knowledge of French (the work environment is French-speaking) and English is an asset. - The preference will be given to candidates who have not only worked in Lausanne as the idea is to offer a post-doc opportunity to young researchers and promote their academic career. Salary and duration: The position Mae-assistant at a minimum of 85% for 24 months. The salary (2008) should be approx. of 77000 Swiss francs/year plus 13th month, starting the 1st February or 1st March 2009.
