Invites applications for a faculty appointment in criminology at the rank of Associate Professor, beginning Fall 2009. Tenure status is subject to negotiation, depending on qualification. We seek to hire a scholar with an emerging national reputation in criminology to complement our increasingly visible department. The successful candidate will be chosen based on strength and breadth of performance on the following selection criteria: 1) Applicants should have an established and active research/publication program in criminology with a record of funded research. Areas of research specialization within criminology are open. 2) Applicants must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate level criminology courses and supervise a diverse population of M.A. and Ph.D. students specializing in criminology and related sociological fields. Minimum qualification is a Ph.D. in sociology, criminology, or closely related field. The Department of Sociology at UNM offers a comprehensive program of undergraduate and graduate studies that focuses on themes in criminology, comparative sociology, Latin American society, race/ethnic relations, gender, family, social policy, health and wellness, and human services. Faculty members and students conduct research on major sociological issues of global, national, and regional significance. The University of New Mexico is the state's flagship University and is one of only three Hispanic-serving, Carnegie Research/Doctoral-Extensive institutions in the U.S. The position will remain open until filled.
