THE AFRICAN STUDIES INITIATIVE (ASI) and the INTERDISCIPLINARY CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF GLOBAL CHANGE (ICGC) is pleased to announce the first two films for this year’s African Film Series. Acclaimed Cameroonian director Jean-Marie Teno, the doyen of documentary filmmaking in contemporary Africa, will screen and discuss two documentaries spanning one decade and engaging the afterlives of traumatic histories, colonial and postcolonial, in Cameroon and in Southern Africa.  This is a rare opportunity to discuss the aesthetics and politics of documentary and its relation to history and memory with a major African and world filmmaker.
