Men, Masks, & Toxic Masculinities


THE GENDER AND SEXUALITY CENTER FOR QUEET & TRANS LIFE is hosting “Men, Masks, & Toxic Masculinities on Friday, April 27 from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM in Appleby Hall Room 103. For more information, see below.

How are masculinities performed? At what point does masculinity become toxic? Why can't some men be vulnerable? What does masc4masc mean? How are race, class and gender related to masculinities? Through interactive activities, dialogues and props, this event will try to answer some of these questions.

Zhihui Sophia Geng - Robert Spaeth Teacher of Disctintion Award


ZHIHUI SOPHIA GENG, who holds a Ph.D. from the American Studies department, has been selected as the 2018 recipient of the Robert Spaeth Teacher of Distinction Award at St. John’s University. Each year one St. John’s faculty members is recognized by this award for teaching excellence. The recipient has customarily delivered the opening convocation address at St. John’s each fall.

The Paradise Project


THE COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS is pleased to announce their call for proposals for The Paradise Project. CLA seeks applications from graduate students in the Arts and Humanities to design and teach an undergraduate course to be scheduled in Spring semester 2019 on the topic of paradise. The graduate instructor will be paid a $4,000 stipend over the Summer 2018 to develop the course, and will have a 50% TA appointment for Spring semester 2019 to teach and coordinate it. Applications are due by Tuesday, May 15.
