Virginia Tech- Africana Studies Assistant Professor Position

The Africana Studies program at Virginia Tech invites applications for one full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in Africana Studies at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall, 2011. Ph.D. required. Areas of research are open, although they are interested in candidates pursuing research on the African Diaspora, preferably in the Caribbean and/or Latin America. Review of materials will begin on November 1, and the position will remain open until filled.

As part of an ongoing diversity initiative and investment in its Africana
Studies program, Virginia Tech invites applications for one full-time,
nine-month, tenure-track position in Africana Studies at the Assistant
Professor level to begin Fall, 2011. Applicants must demonstrate a firm
grounding in Africana Studies. Areas of research are open, although we are
interested in candidates pursuing research on the African Diaspora, preferably
in the Caribbean and/or Latin America. Applicants must have Ph.D. in hand at
the start of appointment. They should be prepared to take on a two-two course
load, contribute to ongoing department and program-building needs, and maintain
a productive research agenda.
Africana Studies is housed within the Department of Sociology, along with the
Women's and Gender Studies and American Indian Studies programs. Our program,
oriented toward critical, centered, scholar-activism, is connected to the Race
and Social Policy (RSP) Research Center. We offer an undergraduate minor as
well as Master's and Ph.D. concentrations and certificates.
