Ethics in Research with Marginalized Communities

THE OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND GRADUATE PROGRAMS AND OVPR are hosting Ethics in Research with Marginalized Communities on Wednesday, March 7 from 1:00 PM – 2:15 PM in Smith Hall Room 121. Join Professors Aren Aizura, Kate Derickson, Sima Shakhsari, and Terrion Williamson and post-doctoral associate Jessica Lopez Lyman as they lead a conversation about questions that arise through their work with transgender, queer, disabled, Latina/o/x, African American, and Muslim communities, victims of violent crime, and other marginalized groups. How do scholars engage with communities as more than mere objects of research? How do they avoid reproducing colonialist power dynamics? These and other questions will be discussed. For more information, contact Alexandra Brown, akbrown@umn.edu. Please RSVP here.
