THE GRADUATE SCHOOL is pleased to
announce the annual competition to recognize the University of Minnesota’s top
Ph. D. recipients. “Best Dissertation” awards will be presented in each of four
broad disciplinary areas – Arts & Humanities, Biological & Medical
Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, and Social & Behavioral
Sciences & Education. Graduate programs that offer the Ph. D. may nominate
one student who received the Ph. D. between July 1, 2016 and April 12, 2018.
The deadline to submit a nomination is Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 12:00 PM.

Students who received the Ph.D. between July 1, 2016 and April 12, 2018 may be nominated. Current students who defend and officially submit their dissertations by April 12, 2018 are also eligible.
Deadline
The deadline to submit a nomination is noon on Thursday, April 12, 2018.
Nomination
Relevant graduate programs that offer the Ph.D. may nominate one student. Complete nominating instructions are available at https://www.grad.umn.edu/fundi ng-tuition/bestdissertation.
Selection
The winner from each group will be chosen by faculty from the broad disciplinary area. Both substantive quality and methodology will be judged. Selection will be based on the originality and importance of the research, and the potential for the student to make a significant contribution to the discipline.
