THE UNIVERSITY OF OREGON JOB APPLICATION

College of Arts and Sciences
Cluster Hire in African American Studies

The University of Oregon College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce openings for a cluster hire in African American Studies.  This open-rank search for tenure-track faculty will bring at least three scholars to a campus expanding its existing expertise in African American Studies in the contexts of Africa and the African Diaspora in twenty-five departments and across six schools and colleges.  We seek to create a cohort of scholars with complementary strengths and shared interests whose scholarship and teaching will enhance the study of race and ethnicity at UO and beyond and help us work toward establishing a comprehensive curriculum in Black Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences.
These hires will occur in several departments, including English, History, and Women’s and Gender Studies.  Ideal candidates for the cluster positions will have specialized training and expertise in one or more of the fields specified below:
  1. Literatures and Media of Africa and the African Diaspora in the Department of English http://jobs.uoregon.edu/unclassified.php?id=5675
  2. African American History in the Department of History http://jobs.uoregon.edu/unclassified.php?id=5620
  3. Black Feminist Theory in the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies http://jobs.uoregon.edu/unclassified.php?id=5676

This initiative will help build critical mass in both traditional and emerging fields of scholarship, foster cross-disciplinary work, and diversify the knowledge we produce at UO.  We encourage applications from scholars eager to participate in a cohort committed to excellence, diversity, and equity and to redefine the research university for the next generation.  We encourage applications from women and underrepresented minorities.  The University of Oregon is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer.
