The Program in Film & Media Studies at Washington University in St. Louis is seeking to fill a tenure-track appointment in electronic media studies at the level of assistant professor. The position will start in fall 2017 and involves a joint appointment with African and African-American Studies or the Department of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies.
We seek candidates with a strong record of qualitative-based scholarly research that centralizes electronic media, whether in the form of television, video games, social media, or the internet. The position requires compelling teaching in undergraduate and graduate courses, the ability to situate electronic media within cultural and historical contexts, and a commitment to vibrant intellectual exchange across disciplinary boundaries.
Required Qualifications
A PhD in film or media studies or a closely related field, in-hand by the start of the appointment, is required. A complete application will consist of letter of interest describing the candidate’s scholarly qualifications and how these relate to FMS and to either AFAS or WGSS; curriculum vitae; writing sample; teaching statement; evidence of teaching excellence such as syllabi, faculty observations or student evaluations; and three letters of recommendation.
