We are excited to host the Italian American Studies Symposium on Friday, October 26. While it is an appraisal of the field, it will also interest scholars engaging in transnational and global histories and diaspora studies. Donna Gabaccia, former IHRC Director and preeminent scholar of international migration and Italian diaspora studies, will return to the Twin Cities for this occasion.

This is a gathering of "Minnesota School of Italian American scholars"-former students who were trained in Minnesota's Ph.D. History Program and visiting scholars who mined the rich collections in the IHRC Archives.

We will also celebrate the publication of the English translation of Oh Capitano! Celso Cesare Moreno-Adventurer, Cheater, and Scoundrel on Four Continents, co-authored by the late Rudolph J. Vecoli, Founding IHRC Director, and Francesco Durante. The book is translated by Elizabeth O. Venditto, a graduate of Minnesota's Ph.D. History Program and former IHRC staff, with an introduction written by Donna Gabaccia.

The symposium at the University of Minnesota will feature new research by scholars and researchers affiliated with the Immigration History Research Center and Archives. We will also take the opportunity to celebrate a new publication co-authored by former IHRC Director Rudolph J. Vecoli: Oh Capitano! Celso Cesare Moreno - Adventurer, Cheater, and Scoundrel on Four Continents.
